CLY-01 Clay Beads
Ceramic beads represent some of the oldest bead-making traditions in the world, shaped by hand from the earth and fired to create both functional and decorative forms. Ceramic beads are made from refined clay and then kiln-fired at higher temperatures. They are often finished with a glaze that gives them a smooth, glossy, or even crackled surface. This process allows for a wide range of vibrant colors and intricate painted designs.
Faience is often categorized as ceramic because it is fired and shaped like pottery. However, it is not true ceramic in the traditional sense. It is made from crushed quartz or sand rather than clay. A glassy glaze binds the material together during firing. This gives faience a bright, smooth surface unlike typical ceramics. Because of its composition, it sits between glass and ceramic. So, while it is grouped with ceramics, it is technically a distinct material.
